Every city page uses local civil time and calculates the Moon’s altitude at maximum eclipse.

What is a blood moon?

A blood moon is a total lunar eclipse. Earth blocks direct sunlight, but red and orange wavelengths filtered through our atmosphere still reach the Moon.

Partial eclipses create a dark curved shadow. Penumbral eclipses only dim the Moon slightly and can be easy to miss.
